Subscriptions for libraries: what is included and how access works

Institutional access across more than 270 journals, with IP-based authentication, COUNTER-style usage reporting and no per-article charges for your readers.

If your researchers are citing our journals, the simplest way to serve them is an institutional subscription: access from anywhere on your network, no individual accounts to administer, and no decision for a reader to make at the point they hit an article.

What a subscription covers

  • Full text across the catalogue — more than 270 journals spanning engineering, science, medicine, management and law, including the archive, not only the current volume.
  • IP-based authentication. You give us your ranges; anyone on them is recognised. No shared passwords to rotate when someone leaves.
  • Unlimited concurrent readers. Access is not metered per seat, so a class of forty reading the same paper is not a problem.
  • Usage reporting so you can see which titles your institution actually uses before the next renewal.
  • Discovery that works. Articles carry registered DOIs and are indexed, so they surface in the places your readers already search.

How access is set up

Send us your IP ranges and we configure them against your subscription. There is nothing to install, no proxy configuration unless you want off-campus access through your existing proxy, and your readers see no login at all — the article simply opens.

If you already run EZproxy or an equivalent, we will give you the stanza.

Choosing what to subscribe to

Few libraries need everything. We will look at your discipline mix and propose a subject package rather than a full catalogue licence if that is the honest answer. Our collections are strongest in Computer and IT, Medical Sciences, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Electrical Engineering, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Management and Law.

Consortium arrangements are available, and we price them per consortium rather than per member institution.

Trials

We would rather you trialled than guessed. A trial gives your institution full access for an agreed window with usage reporting switched on, so the renewal conversation starts from what your readers did rather than from what anyone predicted they would do.

What it costs

Pricing depends on the size of your institution and the collection you want, so there is no single list price worth quoting here. Tell us roughly how many researchers you serve and which subjects matter, and we will come back with a figure and a trial.
